The projects aims at characterizing the rather complex geomorphological and stratigraphic pattern offshore Goia Tauro harbor, resulting from the instability events that in 1977 caused a tsunamogenic landslide that destroyed part of the piers and was likely caused by the canyon head loading with dredged material from harbor construction. Landslide-generated tsunamis are a poorly considered marine geohazard but rather frequent (up to decades) in geologically active regions and potentially destructive for highly-populated or -infrastructured coasts, such as the Mediterranean ones.
