Family secrets rise from the discovery of a Picenian necropolis. That’s what archaeologists hope to reveal from the 20 burials unearthed in Italy. The exceptional find unearthed a portion of a Picenian necropolis dating back to the 6th century B.C. Among the noble tombs of what was most likely an extended family of warriors, wealthy women adorned with valuable bronze artifacts and children, a female deposition accompanied by a trousseau of rare richness emerges. She was lying on a bed of stones with traces of wood, probable remains of some sort of litter and perhaps protected by a cover that maintained the integrity of the remains. She must have been in life a high-ranking figure within the community, perhaps with a role in ritual as well.”
